Whether you have just acquired a new pet or you have your dog for quite some time, it is only appropriate that you implement all the measures that you can in order to keep them as healthy as possible. One of the ways that you can do this is by closely monitoring the food that your dog eats. This will assist tremendously in your efforts to keep your dog as healthy as you can in every way.
Before anything else, it is important to understand that there is nothing wrong with allowing your dog to eat the leftovers from your meal every so often. However, it is crucial that you are 100 percent aware of what your dog will be ingesting and it is your sole responsibility to determine whether it is safe for it to do so. With this in mind, let us take a look at some of the food and beverage items your dog should never eat or drink:
First, we have alcohol. Even the smallest amount of alcohol can present as a serious danger to your dog. Another food item is avocado. There is a toxin known as persin that is present in avocado that may not be harmful to humans but this is not the case with dogs. Consuming it can lead to vomiting, diarrhea and difficulty breathing.
Bread dough or yeast dough is another food item that needs to be kept away from your dog. Otherwise, he may get gassy or worst case scenario, his stomach could get torn. While your dog can have as much water as he would like, this does not apply to other types of beverages such as coffee, tea, soda or energy drinks as he may not react very well to these.
Most important of all, chocolate should never be fed to your dog under any circumstances as it can be fatal. Add to the list: garlic, onions, grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, and Xylitol.
There is a Facebook Page called Dog Food Advisor that is worth getting to know if you are interested in learning about food to feed your dogs.
