Is There Wire in Your Pedigree Dog Food?

Recently there has been a bit of talk on Facebook, See Here and on other blogs such as Life with Dogs about a substance found in bags of Pedigree Dog food in the Kentucky area.

The Director of Marketing Communications for Mars Petcare Lisa Camtainted pedigree dog foodpbell, makers of the food in question, had this to say about the incident:

“We’ve heard from some consumers that they’ve seen some pieces of kibble with what they think is a wire sticking out, but we’ve confirmed it’s actually natural fibers.   Because PEDIGREE is manufactured using meat and bone meal, it’s possible for natural fibers, like pig hair, to appear in the finished kibble.”

Now a good question may be, do you want to feed your dog pig hair?  We tend to prefer serving our dogs a natural Raw diet. That way we know what goes into the food. And yes it is a bit more expensive since we do not include pig hair on our personal list of ingredients. To learn more about Raw Dog Food Diets check out this link: Understanding Dogs BARF Diet
